My name is James Stanek, and I’m a director and producer. I specialize in short films and commercials that take complicated messages and relate them in the simplest, most engaging way imaginable. I believe that every time a company speaks, there is an opportunity to elevate brand cache. On every project, I endeavor to:

1) Identify the core message.

2) Strip away everything that distracts from the audience’s understanding of said message.

3) Develop, embellish, and celebrate what remains into an engaging, enlightening, and entertaining film.

To accomplish this, I work intensely with clients and subjects. I research thoroughly to build a platform for wide-open experimentation. Above all, I remember always that audiences have a choice in what media they consume, and as such, I must focus every detail sharply to deliver a compelling and entertaining film.

ARC of Texas PSA

This is a PSA I directed for the ARC of Texas, a group that advocates on behalf of people with mental & physical disabilities. In particular, the ARC wanted to positively express one of their policy goals: the integration of able clients into regular neighborhoods, instead of keeping them in institutional housing.

Working with ARC staff, we identified several possible clients whose stories spoke to this goal. After traveling the state to meet with our candidates in person, we settled on the story of John & Anita. We spend a day with the two of them, along with their incomparable advocate Ms. Jean Jones, shooting interviews and b-roll for this spot. We worked very hard to preserve the eloquence of Ms. Jones, and the words are entirely hers—no scripts were involved.

Sadly, Anita passed away less than a year after we filmed this spot.
